Test your customized Help and Support

Applies To: Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2012, Windows Server 2012 R2

Testing your Windows® Help and Support customizations thoroughly will make sure that your customers are presented with a consistent and reliable support experience. We recommend that you use the following methods in your testing.

Home page–simple tests

To verify unattended-Setup settings

  1. Open Help and Support by pressing F1.

  2. Verify that the OEM tile is present on the Home page.

  3. TileColor setting: Verify that the background color is the expected color.

  4. Logo setting: Verify that the image is displayed and renders as expected.

  5. LogoURL setting: Verify that the tile can be clicked. Click the tile and verify that the target URL is the location expected.

  6. Manufacturer setting: Verify that your organization's name is spelled correctly and renders as expected.

To verify localization

  1. On a technician computer, install a second language by using a language pack.

  2. Open Help and Support by pressing F1.

  3. Verify that the <ManufacturerName> Help label renders in the current language.

  4. Close Help and Support.

  5. Change the language setting for Windows.

  6. Open Help and Support.

  7. Verify that the <ManufacturerName> Help label renders in the correct language.

Home page–full tests

To verify the custom topic

  1. Open Help and Support by pressing F1.

  2. View the Home page and verify that your custom topic displays correctly.

  3. Resize the window and verify that the topic displays correctly.

  4. Change the zoom level of the page and verify that the topic displays correctly.

  5. Toggle Help and Support between offline and online modes, and verify that the topic displays correctly in both cases.

To verify localization

  1. Open Help and Support by pressing F1.

  2. View the Home page and verify that the custom topic displays correctly on the page.

  3. Close Help and Support.

  4. Change the language setting for Windows .

  5. Open Help and Support.

  6. Verify that the Resources pane topic displays in the new language that you chose.

Escalation page–simple tests

To verify inclusion

  1. Open Help and Support.

  2. View the Escalation page by clicking Contact Support in the top navigation area.

  3. Verify that the values you specified for the OEMInformation setting display correctly on the page.

Escalation page–full tests

To verify presentation

  1. Open Help and Support by pressing F1.

  2. View the Escalation page and verify that your Escalation topic displays correctly on the page.

  3. Resize the window and verify that the topic displays correctly.

  4. Change the zoom level of the page and verify that the topic displays correctly.

  5. Toggle Help and Support between offline and online modes and verify that the topic displays correctly in both cases.

To verify localization

  2. View the Escalation page and verify that Escalation topic displays correctly on the page.

  3. Close Help and Support.

  4. Change the language setting for Windows.

To verify a topic

  1. Open Help and Support.

  2. View the Home and Escalation pages and verify that your Resources topic displays correctly on the page.

  3. Resize the window and verify that the topic displays correctly.

  4. Change the zoom level of the page and verify that the topic displays correctly.

  5. Toggle Help and Support between offline and online modes, and verify that the topic displays correctly in both cases.
