Using the Management Agent for Microsoft SQL Server

By using the management agent for Microsoft SQL Server, you can synchronize with SQL Server 2000, SQL Server 2005, or SQL Server 2008.

Management agent type

This is a call-based management agent.

Schema

The schema is generated based on the source database table definition. When you refresh the schema for this management agent, the connected data source schema is rediscovered, the current management agent schema is updated, and then Management Agent Designer starts. In Management Agent Designer, you can correct any inconsistencies introduced by the updated schema, such as deleted object types or deleted attributes.

Remarks

  • If you want to use Microsoft® Forefront Identity Manager (FIM) 2010 R2 to synchronize multiple SQL Server tables or views, create a management agent for each table or view.

  • To specify the local machine, or localhost, as the SQL server in the management agent for Microsoft SQL Server, enter "." for the SQL server name.

  • One object type is created in the connector space for each table or view.

  • You are not required to install FIM on the server running SQL Server.

  • FIM does not support table names enclosed in quotations. You will receive the following connection error: "Failed to retrieve the database table schema. Unspecified error."

  • SQL Server 2005 adds the following new data types:

Note

None of the new SQL Server data types may be used as anchor attributes.
