Remote desktop options

This topic applies to a server running Windows Server 2012 Essentials or Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials, or to a server running Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard or Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter with the Windows Server Essentials Experience role installed.

Connection speed

The speed of the connection to a network computer using Remote Web Access determines the desktop options that are available to you on the host computer. The following table tells you which desktop options are available for speed that you are connecting to the remote computer through Remote Web Access.

Screen size

This option determines the window size that is opened on the local computer when you connect to a remote computer through the Remote Access Web Site. The window size is expressed in pixels.

Note

When you connect to the server, the Dashboard opens. The Dashboard default size is 1024 x 741 and is resizable.

Enable the remote computer to print to my local printer

Enabled by default. This option allows you to print to the printer that is connected to your local computer from the remote computer.

Play sounds from the remote computer

Enabled by default. This options allow you to play sounds, such as system sounds, on your local computer from the remote computer.

Enable copy and paste between the remote computer and the local computer

Not enabled by default. This option allow you to copy and paste files between the remote computer and the local computer in the same was as you would copy and paste files from one location to another on your local computer.

Enable the remote computer to access drives on my local computer

Not enabled by default. This option allows you to access the files and folders on the hard disk drives that are connected to your local computer from the remote computer.
