Description

The Add-DnsServerRootHint cmdlet adds root hints on a DNS server. You can add root hints by specifying the DNS name server and IP address, or you can use the InputObject parameter to specify a DnsServerRootHint object.

Examples

Example 1: Add a root hint to a DNS server by using IP address

PS C:\> Add-DnsServerRootHint -NameServer "root.contoso.com" -IPAddress 172.23.90.128

This command adds the IP address 172.23.90.128 for the name server root.contoso.com to the list of root hints on the local DNS server.

Example 2: Add a root hint to a DNS server by using an IPv6 address

PS C:\>Add-DnsServerRootHint -NameServer "root.contoso.com" -IPAddress 2001:4898:7020:f100:458f:e6a2:fcaf:698c
