Updated: February 13, 2014

Applies To: Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R3, Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R2

This topic applies to features in the Inventory management module. It does not apply to features in the Warehouse management module.

Click Inventory management > Setup > Warehouse reports > Space utilization.

Use this form to create space utilization setups. A space utilization setup can be associated with a master plan to project the current and future space utilization of a warehouse or site. For more information about how to associate a space utilization setup with a master plan, and how to view the information on a report, see Schedule load utilization.

The following tables provide descriptions for the controls in this form.

Tab

Description

General

Select a storage load mode and, optionally, exclude blocked locations from the space utilization calculation.

Location type

Select the location types to include in the calculation of available space for the load unit.

Fields

Description

Space utilization

Enter an identifier for the space utilization setup.

Name

Enter a name for the space utilization setup.

Storage load mode

Specify the basis for the calculation of available space. The calculation is for the selected location types, such as bulk locations and picking locations, which exist in zones or warehouses. Select one of the following storage load modes:

  • Warehouse – Available space is calculated for the existing warehouses.

  • Zone – Available space is calculated for the existing zones of one or more warehouses. When you select this option, the warehouse where the zone is located is not considered. When you project the load utilization by using the Warehouse load utilization report, only the zone information is included in the overview.

    TipTip

Select this option if the zones of the warehouse do not overlap and if no zone spans more than one warehouse.

  • Warehouse and zone – Available space is calculated for the existing zones of one or more warehouses. When you select this option, the warehouse where the zone is located is considered. When you project the load utilization by using the Warehouse load utilization report, information for both the zone and the warehouse is included in the overview.

    NoteNote

Select this option if the zones of one warehouse overlap or if a zone spans more than one warehouse. Zones that overlap are combined into one load unit. However, the available space is included only once in the calculation of available space.

Exclude blocked locations

Select this check box to exclude any blocked inventory locations from the calculation of space utilization.

TipTip

You can block an inventory location for input and output by specifying a blocking cause for the location on the Other tab in the Inventory locations form.

Location type

Select the location types to include in the calculation of space utilization. You must select at least one location type.
