Card numbers (form) [AX 2012]

Updated: August 22, 2012

Applies To: Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R3, Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R2

Click Retail > Setup > Payment methods > Card numbers.

Use this form to set up card numbers to identify and validate the types of cards that are accepted as a form of payment by your business. Card types include debit cards, credit cards, and corporate cards. Validation of the card number is required for payment processing when a customer presents a card. You set up the length and range of card numbers that are acceptable for each card type.

Set up card types and card numbers

Some credit cards are identified by a unique starting number. For example, card numbers for one card type always starts with the number 4. To identify and validate this card type in the system, you enter 4 in both the Card number from field and the Card number to field, and then enter 1 in the Digits to identify field. Any time that a card is used that starts with the number 4, the system identifies the card as this card type.

The following table provides descriptions for the controls in this form.

Field

Description

Card ID

Select the card ID that is assigned to the store as a store payment type. A card ID must be assigned to payment cards that your business accepts. You can define a card ID for each card type. Alternatively, you can set up a generic card ID, such as Credit card, and then assign a range of card number values that the system recognizes as a credit card, regardless of the specific type of credit card.

Card number from

Enter the starting number that is used to identify and verify the card type in the system. This number can be a single digit if, for example, card numbers for the card type always start with the number 4. If the card type is identified by the first four digits in a specific range of numbers, this field specifies the start of the number range.

Card number to

Enter the ending number that is used to identify and verify the card type in the system. If the card type is identified by the first single digit on the card, enter the same number that you entered in the Card number from field. If the card type is identified by the first four digits in a specific range of numbers, this field specifies the end of the number range.

Digits to identify

Enter the number of digits to use to validate the card. This number should match the number of digits that you entered in the Card number from and Card number to fields. For example if you entered a four-digit number in those fields, enter 4 in this field.
