Updating MX records

A mail exchanger (MX) record is a resource record in the domain name system (DNS). The MX record is used to tell an email server where to send an email for users in a given domain. For example, when Office 365 needs to send an email to john@contoso.com, Office 365 looks for the MX record for contoso.com in the DNS, and sends email to that server. If your domain is added in Office 365, the MX record should be in the form domain-com-mail.protection.outlook.com; for example, contoso.com’s MX record would be in the form contoso-com.mail.protection.outlook.com. The process of sending mail by using MX records does not require that you create a connector. For mail flow to work for your domains that are in Office 365, you should update your MX records.
