How Do I (Integration Services)

Integration Services is a platform for building high-performance data integration solutions, including extraction, transformation, and load (ETL) packages for data warehousing.

Integration Services includes graphical tools and wizards for building and debugging packages; a management service, Integration Services service, for administering Integration Services; and application programming interfaces (APIs) for programming the Integration Services object model.

Note

In SQL Server 2005, Integration Services replaced Data Transformation Services (DTS). DTS was first introduced as a component of SQL Server 7.0.

    With a minimum of coding, you can extend both the control flow and the data flow of an Integration Services package by using the Script task and the Script component. Both objects also benefit from all the functionality offered by the Microsoft .NET Framework class library, as well as custom assemblies. The Script task and the Script component enable custom functionality without requiring the developer to write all the infrastructure code for a custom task or custom data flow component.
