The Virtual Directory Information page of the Configure Web Synchronization Wizard allows you to specify the name and the path for the virtual directory.

Options

Alias:

Specify the name for the virtual directory on the computer running IIS. It is recommended that you use the same naming conventions that you use for a folder.

The name of the server running Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) and the virtual directory must be specified as part of the InternetURL property for connectivity. You may optionally specify the SQL Server Compact 3.5 Server Agent (Sqlcesa35.dll) for SQL Server Compact 3.5 or the SQL Server Replication Listener (replisapi.dll) for SQL Server in the URL. For example, the following URL accesses a SQL Server Compact 3.5 Server Agent for replication or remote data access (RDA): https://www.adventure-works.com/sqlce or https://www.adventure-works.com/sqlce/Sqlcesa35.dll.

A physical directory is created for every virtual directory. The name entered in the Alias text box is the folder name of the physical directory that is created. When prompted to create the folder, click Yes.

Path:

Specify the path to the content folder that contains the virtual directory. The path to the content folder should be specified as a local path (for example C:\Program Files), even if the computer running IIS is a remote computer. By default, the Configure Web Synchronization Wizard points to the location in which the SQL Server Compact 3.5 Server Agent is installed for SQL Server Compact 3.5 or to C:\Inetpub\wwwroot for SQL Server. When prompted to copy and register the SQL Server Compact 3.5 Server Agent, click Yes. You can also specify an alternate location on disk for better disk space management, although a copy of the SQL Server Compact 3.5 Server Agent or SQL Server Replication Listener must be located in that location. If you do specify an alternate location, the Configure Web Synchronization Wizard copies and registers the SQL Server Compact 3.5 Server Agent or the SQL Server Replication Listener to the new location. All temporary files for data transfer to and from the instance of SQL Server will reside in this location for SQL Server Compact 3.5.

When configuring an existing virtual directory, you cannot change the physical path of the virtual directory chosen for reconfiguration, but you can change the alias.
