Define New Dimensions (Cube Wizard)

Use the Define New Dimensions page to create new dimensions for a cube that is being created without using a data source.

This page will appear only if you have selected Build the cube without using a data source on the Select Build Method page.

Select dimensions from template Options

Note

The options listed in this section will appear only if you have selected Use cube template and selected a template from Template on the Select Build Method page.

  • Select dimensions from template
    Displays the dimensions from the cube template for the new cube.
  • (Column with check boxes)
    Select to include a dimension from the template in the cube.

    To include a specific dimension from the template, select the check box for that dimension.

    To include all dimensions from the template in the cube, select the check box in the header.

  • Type
    Lists the type of the dimension provided by the template.

    To change the type, click the type, and then select a new type from the list.

  • Name
    Lists the name of the dimension provide by the template.

    To rename a dimension, click on that dimension and type a new name.

  • SCD
    Identifies the dimension from the template as a slowly changing dimension (SCD).

    To identify that the dimension is a slowly changing dimension, select the check box for the dimension. Selecting this option indicates that additional attributes should be created by the wizard to support slowly changing dimensions.

  • Attributes
    Displays the attributes associated with the dimension provided by the template.

Add new dimensions Options

The options listed in this section always appear on the Define New Dimensions page.

  • Add new dimensions
    Displays the new, non-template dimensions to be added to the cube.
  • Name
    Lists the new dimensions to be included in the cube.

    To add a new dimension, click Add new dimension, and then type the name of the new dimension.

  • SCD
    Identifies the dimension from the template as a slowly changing dimension.

    To identify that the dimension is a slowly changing dimension, select the check box for the dimension. Selecting this option indicates that additional attributes should be created by the wizard to support slowly changing dimensions.

  • Attributes
    Displays the attributes associated with the new dimension.
  • X
    Deletes the new dimension from the cube.

    To remove a new dimension from the cube, click the X button for that dimension.
