Identify Fact and Dimension Tables (Diagram Tab) (Cube Wizard)

Use the Identify Fact and Dimension Tables page to indicate which tables from the specified data source view to include in the cube, and to identify whether a table is to be used as a fact table, a dimension table, or both within the cube. If the Auto build option on the Select Build Method page was selected, the tables will already have recommended types set.

The Diagram tab displays the tables and their relationships in diagram form. To modify a table, select that table by clicking on it in the diagram. To select more that one table at a time, drag the cursor across the tables. To change which portion of the diagram appears on the tab, click the navigation button (a four-headed arrow) in the lower-right corner and then drag the selection pane to the area that you want to display.

If you want to see the tables displayed in a grid instead of in a diagram, click the Tables tab.

Note

This page will appear only if you have selected Build the cube using a data source on the Select Build Method page.

Note

You can select both Fact and Dimension for a selected table. Selecting both options indicates that the table is to be used as both a fact table and as a dimension table. If both options are selected, the dimension created from the selected table has a fact dimension relationship to the measure group created from the selected table.

Options

  • Time dimension table
Select the table to use as the time dimension table. If there is no time dimension table in the data source view, select <None>.

Diagram Tab Options

  • Zoom
Select the zoom ratio to resize the tables.
  • Fact
Click to indicate that the selected table is a fact table. The table will turn yellow if it is only a fact table or green if it is both a fact table and a dimension table.

    Note

The fact table will turn red if the table has no relationship to any dimension table.

  • Dimension
Click to indicate that the selected table is a dimension table. The table will turn blue if it is only a dimension table, or green if it is both a fact table and a dimension table.

    Note

The dimension table will turn red if the table has no relationship to any fact table.
