How to: Import Registered Server Information (SQL Server Management Studio)

By importing saved registered server information, you can present a consistent user interface on multiple computers.

To import registered server information

  1. In Registered Servers, click the server type on the Registered Servers toolbar. The server type must be the same as the registered server export file type. For example, if you have exported SQL Server registered server information, you must click SQL Server on the Registered Servers toolbar.

  2. Right-click a server group, and select Import.

  3. In the Import Registered Servers dialog box, select the registered servers file to import, and then click OK.

  4. In the Select the server group to import to box, click the location in the Registered Servers tree where you want to place the imported server group, and then click OK.

If you import a registered server to a server group that already contains a server with that name, a message box prompts:

"A server or server group named "SERVER NAME" already exists. Do you want to overwrite it?"

If you select to overwrite the server or server group, that node will be replaced by the new, imported registered server information.
