Querying and Defining Report Data (Reporting Services)

[This topic is pre-release documentation and is subject to change in future releases. Blank topics are included as placeholders.]

Use SQL Server Reporting Services Report Designer to create reports using data from many types of data sources, including relational databases, multidimensional databases, Web services, and XML documents. Report data can be as simple as data from a document or as complex as multidimensional data from business intelligence warehouses. You can present data from multiple data sources in a single report. After you define a report data source, you can use it for a single report or share it among many reports.

Report models are used to create reports in Report Builder or in the Report Model Query Designer within Report Designer. A report model is a metadata description of the underlying data source and the relationships between the data contained within it. Models can be created from SQL Server 2000 and later databases, Analysis Services 2005 and later databases, and Oracle databases running version 9.2.0.3 or later. To create models, you can use one of the following tools: Model Designer, Report Manager, or Management Studio.
