Deployment Tools

For the latest version of Commerce Server 2007 Help, see the Microsoft Web site.

Commerce Server 2007 provides rich, out-of-the-box functionality to quickly and efficiently customize and deploy new solutions. The following sections describe the installation features and other tools that Commerce Server provides:

  • Commerce Server Installation Features

  • Commerce Server 2007 Configuration

  • Commerce Server 2007 Upgrade Wizard

  • Commerce Server Site Packager

  • Commerce Server Package Files

Commerce Server Installation Features

  • Silent installation and Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) packaging for business management interfaces. Silently distribute the business management interfaces to business user desktops in an automated manner.

  • Stand-alone installer for BizTalk Server adapters. Install or un-install Microsoft BizTalk Server adapters independently from the Commerce Server 2007 Setup program.

  • Stand-alone installer for Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) pack. Install or un-install the MOM pack independently from the Commerce Server 2007 Setup program.

Commerce Server 2007 Configuration

You must configure Commerce Server 2007 on each server on which you install it. To simplify the process, Commerce Server provides two configuration tools: a Configuration command line and a Configuration Wizard.

The Configuration command line tool provides IT professionals a way to perform silent configuration and automate deployment configuration throughout an enterprise network.

The Commerce Server 2007 Configuration Wizard provides another means for configuring Commerce Server 2007. This tool walks the IT professional or developer through a series of pages to configure the following Commerce Server systems:

  • Commerce Server Administration Database

  • Commerce Server Direct Mailer Service

  • Commerce Server Staging System

Additionally, the Configuration Wizard automatically performs the following operations:

  • Creates and sets up the following COM+ applications:

    • Commerce Server Config (for the Administration API).

    • Commerce Server List Manager (for handling marketing lists).

    • Commerce Server Catalog Import Host (for handling Catalog import and export).

    • Commerce Server Orders (for running the Commerce Server pipelines and Orders transactions).

    • Commerce Server Promocode Generator (for generating promotion codes).

  • Sets up Commerce Server Performance Counters.

  • Sets up the Widgets virtual directory (for Commerce Server Profiles System schema administration).

Commerce Server 2007 Upgrade Wizard

The Commerce Server 2007 Upgrade Wizard provides a simplified means for upgrading and migrating global resources, site resources, and site data from Commerce Server 2002 to Commerce Server 2007. It upgrades site resources such as catalogs, orders, campaigns, marketing data, and profiles, and it reviews catalog data to check for unauthorized conditions. The Upgrade Wizard also optionally deletes resources that are deprecated in Commerce Server 2007, such as the Predictor resource and Commerce Server Business Desk Security.

You should use the Commerce Server 2007 Upgrade Wizard when you are ready to port your existing data and resources and start working on your Commerce Server 2007 site.

Commerce Server Site Packager

Commerce Server Site Packager is a deployment tool that you use to package your site and its applications and resources into a single file, and then move that file to another environment. You use it to package your Commerce Server site (including the IIS metabase settings), files from the system file, resources from the Administration database, and SQL Server databases into a single file. You also use it to unpack the Commerce Server site (or sections of it) onto other computers.

For example, after developing or updating your site, you can use Site Packager to package and move your site from your development environment to your test environment, and then finally to your production environment. Generally, you use Site Packager for the initial deployment of your site. For future deployments, incremental updates, and rollbacks, use Commerce Server Staging.
