Defining Your Requirements for External User Access

Topic Last Modified: 2011-02-03

The basic functionality provided by a Microsoft Lync Server 2010, Edge Server has not changed significantly from Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2, but the deployment options have. For example, the following options are new:

  • Topology Builder approach to planning and installation

  • DNS load balancing of both internal and external Edge interfaces

  • Support for network address translation (NAT) of the A/V Edge for multiple Edge Servers in a pool

  • A single public certificate can be applied to Edge interfaces and services that require a certificate

This section focuses on the impact these new options have on planning.
