How to: Switch to a Different Team Project from Microsoft Test Manager

If you want to do some testing work using Microsoft Test Manager in a different team project, you can just change the team project. When you start Microsoft Test Manager, the test plan that you are currently using for your testing is displayed. You can use the hyperlink for the test plan to change your team project at any time, as shown in the following illustration.

Note

Only team projects that you have permission to access will be displayed. For more information about permissions, see Team Foundation Server Permissions.

To change your context to a different team project

  1. Open Microsoft Test Manager.

    Note

    To display the Microsoft Test Manager window, click Start, and then click All Programs. Point to Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 and then click Microsoft Test Manager 2010.

  2. To connect to a different team project, click the test plan name hyperlink in the upper-right corner, or click the home icon.

    The Testing Center view is displayed that shows any existing test plans.

  3. Click Change project.

    The Connect to Your Team Project dialog box is displayed.

  4. (Optional) To add a new Team Foundation Server, click Add server. Type the URL of the Team Foundation Server, or just the name of the Team Foundation Server, and then click Add.

    The connection string that will be used to connect to Team Foundation Server is shown in Preview.

    Note

    If you do not know the name of your Team Foundation Server, contact your system administrator.

  5. To select a team project from a team project collection, click the arrow to view the list of team projects in the project collection. Select the name of your team project in the list, and then click Connect.

    If you successfully connect to this team project, the Testing Center view is displayed that shows any existing test plans.

    Note

    You can select an existing test plan to use or add a new one. To select an existing test plan to use, click the plan in the list and then click Select Plan.

  6. To add a plan, click Add.

    The Add test plan dialog box is displayed.

  7. Type the name for your plan in Enter the plan name, and then click Add.

    Your plan is now added to the list and highlighted.

  8. To select the plan you added, click Select plan.

    The name of the test plan is displayed in the upper-right corner of the Microsoft Test Manager window.
