How to: Move, Copy, or Store Text

You can select text and then move it to another location, such as the following:

  • A different location in the current document.

  • Another project document that is open in a different instance of the Code Editor.

  • An .xml file to be stored in a code snippets folder.

  • The Toolbox.

  • The Command or Watch windows.

You can also copy and move the text in a single action.

Note

You can select text in a continuous stream or in a rectangle. For more information, see How to: Select and Change Text.

To move text

  1. Select the text you want to move.

  2. Drag the text to the location where you want to insert it.

  3. Release the mouse button to paste the text in the new location and delete it from the old location.

To copy and move text

  1. Select the text you want to copy and move.

  2. Press CTRL and then drag the text to the location where you want to insert it.

  3. Release the mouse button to paste a copy of the text in the new location.

To store and retrieve text

  1. Select the text you want to store.

  2. Drag the text to any Toolbox tab.

    Note

    You can move the text, or copy it and move it.

  3. Release the mouse button to store the text in the Toolbox.

  4. To retrieve the text, use one of the following procedures:

    • Drag it from the Toolbox to the location where you want to put it.

    • Double-click the text in the Toolbox to insert it at the cursor in the file in the Code Editor.
