Microsoft Fix It Center Client (Beta)

One of the many things that I love about what Microsoft has done with Windows 7 (and Windows Server 2008 R2 for that matter) is the move to reducing the amount of time that IT staff spends supporting existing systems. A good example of this is the Windows 7 Action center that allows users to self-diagnose and repair common issues with Windows 7. What if you are running Windows XP or Windows Vista? Windows Server 2003 SP2? Windows Server 2008??? Well the answer is here!

Enter a brand new, beta product that we announced earlier this week called Microsoft Fix It. The Fix It Center is both a client application that needs to be installed, as well as a Web-Based service that takes advantage of the near 300 solutions in 24 languages that are designed to help users diagnose and fix common problems with their PC.

The Fix It Center gets updates about known issues with devices you’ve connected, and even with Windows itself. Once fixes are made available from Microsoft it notifies the user that the fixes are ready and prompts the user to install them. As more and more troubleshooters become available they are updated through the normal monthly patch cycles. Unlike the Action Center in Windows 7, the fix it center does require that the application be started and running since it’s not an integrated part of the Operating System.

Drop on by the  Microsoft Fix It Center and test those Windows XP (Service Pack 3), Windows XP Professional 64Bit (SP2), Windows Vista, Windows Server 2003 SP2, and Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2 computers with the beta version of this tool.
