Creating User State Migration SMS Package and Program

When replacing an existing computer, you need to capture user state from the existing computer so that the user state information can be restored to the new target computer. In this scenario, you will not deploy an operating system to the existing computer. Instead, you will create an SMS 2003 package and program to capture the user state information. This is a standard SMS 2003 package and program—not an SMS 2003 OSD package and program. After you create the SMS 2003 package and program, you would advertise the package and program to the existing computers (the computers being replaced).

Deployment Workbench automatically creates the source files required to create the SMS package and program to perform user state capture. The files are stored in the OldComputer folder immediately beneath the folder that is the root for the deployment point. For example, if the root of the deployment point is C:\ZTI, then the path to the source files for creating the SMS package is C:\ZTI\OldComputer.
