For security reasons, if you have a device that contains a security setting from a corporate deployment of Microsoft Exchange Server, your company may require that you enter the PIN each time you connect your device with your computer. If you have any questions about this setting, contact the system administrator for your company.

Scenario 5: Using Windows Mobile Device Center

When starting Windows Mobile Device Center for the first time, you will be able to either connect and use your device without setting up a partnership or to create a Windows Mobile partnership with your Windows Mobile powered device to synchronize information.

To copy contents on the device to the computer

  1. Connect your device to the computer. Windows Mobile Device Center starts automatically.

  2. Click File Management. This opens the Mobile Device folder for your device.

Please note, your computer can set up Windows Mobile partnerships with many different Windows Mobile powered devices, but a device can have synchronization relationships with at most two computers.

Establishing your device partnership

Only devices that have a Windows Mobile partnership with a computer can synchronize information with that computer. Certificate enrollment is an automatic process, and doesn’t require you to go through any special steps.

To set up your device to use a certificate

  1. Ensure that your device is not already synchronizing e-mail with an Exchange Server.

  2. Connect your device to a computer on your network.

  3. In Windows Mobile Device Center, click Set up your device, then follow the instructions on the screen.

Note

If your Exchange Server is set up to authenticate with certificates, a certificate from your enterprise’s network is automatically installed on your device during setup.

To set up synchronization with Exchange Server

  1. Connect your device to the computer. Windows Mobile Device Center starts automatically.

  2. When the device is not synchronizing, click Mobile Device Settings, and then click Change Exchange Server Settings.

  3. In the Server Address box, type the name of the server running Exchange Server.

You will need to copy this program to your device. If you cannot find any installation instructions for the program, use File Management in Windows Mobile Device Center to copy the program file to the Program Files folder on your device. Connect your device to the computer. Windows Mobile Device Center starts automatically.
