Create NAP policies with a wizard

You can use this procedure to create the health policies, connection request policies, and network policies required to deploy Network Access Protection (NAP) with Network Policy Server (NPS).

This procedure explains how to start the New Network Access Protection Policies wizard. When you run the wizard, you first choose the network connection method that you have deployed, such as Terminal Services Gateway (TS Gateway) or 802.1X wireless, and then enter the information required for the wizard to create all of the NPS policies for that connection method.

Note

In this context, network connection method is synonymous with NAP enforcement method.

After you run the wizard, the following policies are created:

  • Two health policies: compliant and noncompliant.

  • One connection request policy.

  • Three network policies: compliant, noncompliant, and non-NAP capable.

Running the New Network Access Protection Policies wizard is not the only step required to deploy NAP. Each network connection method requires that you deploy hardware and software components for your NAP deployment.

Membership in Domain Admins, or equivalent, is the minimum required to complete this procedure.

To create NAP policies with a wizard

  1. Open the NPS console. If it is not already selected, click NPS (Local). If you are running the NPS MMC snap-in and want to create NAP policies on a remote NPS server, select the server.

  2. In Getting Started and Standard Configuration, select Network Access Protection (NAP) policy server. The text and links below the text change to reflect your selection.

  3. Click Configure NAP with a wizard. The New Network Access Protection Policies wizard opens.
