Disconnect from a Session

Applies To: Windows Server 2008 R2

When you disconnect from a session, your programs will continue to run in a disconnected state. When you reconnect, you will be reconnected to the same session, as long as the session is still running on the remote computer. You can disconnect from a session by using the Remote Desktops snap-in.

Any user account can be used to complete this procedure. However, to disconnect a session, you must be a member of the local Remote Desktop Users group on the remote computer.

To disconnect from a session

  1. Open the Remote Desktops snap-in. To do this, click Start, point to Administrative Tools, point to Remote Desktop Services, and then click Remote Desktops.

  2. In the console tree, right-click the name of the connection that you want to disconnect, and then click Disconnect.

Note

To log off the remote computer, you must log off from within the Remote Desktop session.
