Rename a Remote Desktop Services Connection

You can rename a connection on the RD Session Host server. You might want to rename a connection to make the name more descriptive.

The connection name appears when you view session information in Remote Desktop Services Manager. For more information about viewing session information in Remote Desktop Services Manager, see the topic "View Sessions Running on an RD Session Host Server" in the Remote Desktop Services Manager Help in Windows Server 2008 R2.

You cannot have two connections with the same name on an RD Session Host server.

Use the following procedure to rename a connection on the RD Session Host server.

Membership in the local Administrators group, or equivalent, on the RD Session Host server that you plan to configure, is the minimum required to complete this procedure. Review details about using the appropriate accounts and group memberships at https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=83477.

To rename a connection on the RD Session Host server

  1. On the RD Session Host server, open Remote Desktop Session Host Configuration. To open Remote Desktop Session Host Configuration, click Start, point to Administrative Tools, point to Remote Desktop Services, and then click Remote Desktop Session Host Configuration.

  2. Under Connections, click the name of the connection (for example, RDP-Tcp) that you want to rename.

  3. On the Action menu, click Rename Connection.

  4. In the Rename Connection dialog box, type the new name for the connection, and then click OK.
