BitsAdmin Remarks

Windows Updates

BITS is often erroneously confused with Windows Update service because Windows Update service uses Background Intelligent Transfer Service by default.

Network Throttling

BITS regulates the transfer rate to minimize impact on user interactivity, such as a job sent to a network printer or web pages viewed through Internet Explorer.

Customized APIs

BITS is exposed to programmers through a set of Application Program Interfaces (APIs). For more information on using BITS programmatic interfaces, see the Microsoft Developer Network.
