Checklist: Recovering a system that will not start

Step Reference

Try Safe Mode and related startup options, which you can use to start the system with only the minimal necessary services.

Startup options

If other startup options do not help, consider using the Recovery Console. This option is recommended only for advanced users or administrators.

Recovery Console overview

Start the computer and use the Recovery Console

If startup options and the Recovery Console do not work in your situation and if you made appropriate advance preparations, try using your original installation disk and an Automated System Recovery (ASR) set to restore your system.
