Checklist: Creating a new resource

Choose an Internet Protocol (IP) address resource to be associated with the network name.

If an IP address resource does not already exist, create one. If necessary, obtain the IP address from your network administrator. This must be a static IP address.

When the Network Name resource is brought online, the IP address resource with which it is associated is included when the name is registered with the various name resolution services.

Make the network name resource dependent on the IP address resource.

Note

  • Optionally, you can enable Kerberos authentication and specify that DNS registration must succeed for the network name resource.

Virtual servers

Optionally, use the cluster command with the /registerdns option to register the resource with a DNS server in a way that does not interrupt cluster availability.
