Microsoft FAST Search Server 2010 for SharePoint può sostituire le caratteristiche di ricerca di SharePoint Server negli ambienti in cui la ricerca di SharePoint Server non è in grado di soddisfare i requisiti relativi alla scalabilità e alle prestazioni. È possibile distribuire FAST Search Server 2010 for SharePoint tra più server per la ridondanza, nonché per aumentare le prestazioni e la capacità. La distribuzione e la gestione vengono eseguite principalmente mediante operazioni da riga di comando e non tramite il sito Web Amministrazione centrale SharePoint. Tali operazioni possono essere incluse in script utilizzando Windows PowerShell. FAST Search Server 2010 for SharePoint è disponibile solo con licenza CAL (Client Access License) Enterprise di SharePoint Server.
