If a FAST Search query is returning more documents than you expect to see, it could indicate one of several item level security issues.

Resolution

Work through each possible resolution in order.

Is the document public, or does it include group membership?

To determine the security permissions of a document, follow the steps under Does the currently indexed content have the expected user and group permissions?. If the FIXML document bcondocacl field contains a value of all or unknown, this document is public and can be accessed by all users.

Is the user who performed the search a member of a group that has permissions to the document?

To determine the security permissions of the user performing the search, follow the steps under Does the searcher belong to a group that has permissions to the document?. By using this information and the results of the first resolution suggestion in this article (Is the document public, or does it include group membership?), you should be able to determine which security permissions provided access to the document.
