About extended content capacity (FAST Search Server 2010 for SharePoint)(informazioni in lingua inglese)

Data pubblicazione: 16 dicembre 2010

For scenarios with low content update rates and moderate query volume it may be desired to index more items per column in order to save hardware cost. You can change the Microsoft FAST Search Server 2010 for SharePoint indexer configuration to handle up to 40 million items per column.

This article provides recommendations related to the extended content capacity configuration.

Use the extended content capacity configuration only if your deployment has:

  • High content volumes, where the number of content changes over time is low.

  • Low query throughput requirements (maximum 5-10 queries per second, depending on CPU performance of the servers).

  • Indexing latency is less important. There will be a longer delay from an item is updated until it is searchable.

Nota

Any change implies a load to the system. This includes user permission updates to the items.

Nota

The extended content capacity configuration is not optimal for deployments that have less than 15 million items per index column, and should only be used when more capacity is required.

You should typically configure more than one search row for query performance and availability.

Hardware recommendations when using extended content capacity:

  • 16 CPU cores/threads or more (24 or more is preferred)

  • 48 GB RAM

  • A high performance storage subsystem

To change the indexer configuration, you must modify a configuration file that also contains several other important parameters for the indexer. This configuration file may be changed in a future software update. You must re-apply the configuration change after the software update.
