Volume Activation Management Tool (VAMT) 2.0 includes new and updated features. The following tables list and describe those features.

New features

Feature Description

MMC 3-based user interface

VAMT 2.0 uses a Microsoft Management Console (MMC) 3-based user interface that includes a pane in which managed computers are displayed and includes an Add Computers command. You can also use Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) queries to add computers.

Command-line interface

You can run VAMT 2.0 from a command-line interface. This allows you to use the tool in scripts and to schedule Windows activation tasks. To see the command-line switches, run the following command:

vamt /?

Updated features

Feature Description

Remote installation of product keys

In VAMT 1.2, you could remotely activate Windows-based computers only if the correct product key was already installed on the client. In VAMT 2.0, you can store product keys and apply them to the clients by using either online activation or proxy activation.

Data importing

If you scan the network by using VAMT 1.2, you can save the data in a Computer Information List (.cil) file and then import the file to VAMT 2.0. When you do this, the already-stored file is not overwritten. VAMT 2.0 removes all duplicates.

Nota

You cannot use VAMT 1.2 to open .cil files in VAMT 1.2 that were saved in VAMT 2.0.

Last action status

Sometimes the text in the Status of the last action column is too wide to be displayed in the column. In VAMT 2.0, you can display the last action status of a computer by using the shortcut menu instead of resizing the pane.
