Install a Non-Plug and Play Device

Applies To: Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2

This topic provides a procedure that you can use to install a non-Plug and Play–compliant device in your computer.

Membership in the local Administrators group, or equivalent, is the minimum required to complete this procedure.

To install a non-Plug and Play device

  1. Open Device Manager.

  2. Right-click the top node in the details pane.

  3. Click Add legacy hardware.

  4. In the Add Hardware Wizard, click Next, and then follow the instructions on your screen.
