How to Restart a Job

You can restart most jobs that fail or are canceled from either Jobs view or the Jobs window.
If more than one job places a virtual machine into a Failed state, only the most recent job of that type can be restarted. The following jobs are among the jobs that can place the virtual machine in a Failed state: Create Virtual Machine, Move Virtual Machine, Store Virtual Machine, Change Virtual Machine Properties, and Refresh Virtual Machine (if the virtual machine was updated outside Virtual Machine Manager or the host stopped responding during the job). For those jobs, you can use the Repair action for a virtual machine to either restart the job that caused the virtual machine to fail or return the virtual machine to its state before the job ran. For jobs that run for a long time, such as virtual machine migration, intermediate results are stored periodically while the job is running, and the Restart action attempts to resume the job from the last known state. All other jobs start from the beginning.
To restart some jobs, you must enter credentials. For example, Add Virtual Machine Host requires credentials to be entered on the virtual machine host to allow VMM to install the Virtual Machine Manager agent.
To restart a job in Jobs view
In Jobs view, select the job you want to restart in the results pane.
In the Actions pane, click Restart. Or, right-click the job and then click Restart.
If you are prompted for credentials, enter them.
To restart a job in the Jobs window
On the toolbar, click Jobs.
In the Jobs window, select the job, and then click Restart Job.
