Things to Know about Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 and Windows Vista Service Pack 2

Prerequisites

If you have any beta versions of Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 (SP2) or Windows Vista SP2 installed, you must uninstall them.

To uninstall beta versions of SP2

  1. In Control Panel, click Programs, click Programs and Features, and then in the top left of the task pane, click View installed updates.

  2. Under Microsoft Windows, right-click KB94846, and then click Uninstall.

You must have a genuine copy of Windows Server 2008 with SP1 or Windows Vista with SP1 installed on the computer prior to installing SP2.

Note

SP2 is the first post-release service pack for Windows Server 2008. Windows Server 2008 released with the Service Pack 1 code included.

Recommendations

If “vLite” was used to customize your Windows Vista installation, you may have removed required system components that prevent Service Pack 2 from installing. For more information, before you install Windows Vista SP2, see article KB968279 in the Microsoft Knowledge Base (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=137181).

Important

The beta versions of Windows Server 2008 SP2 and Windows Vista SP2 are time-limited software that will operate until June 1, 2010. If you installed any beta versions of Windows Server 2008 SP2 or Windows Vista SP2, it is highly recommended that you uninstall them before June 1, 2010.
