Product model variables (form)

Use this form to view product model variable characteristics.

This information applies only to Product builder.

The following tables provide descriptions for the controls in this form.

Fields

Field

Description

Variable group

The group a variable belongs to. Groups are used for grouping modeling variables in the user dialog box. A variable that is not in a group becomes unavailable to the user.

Note

This field is completed only for external variables because only variables of this kind can be members of the group.

Print

Controls if the product model variable will print on business documentation.

Attribute type

Variable type.

  • Variable - Modeling variable. The product model’s set of modeling variables represents an analytical breakdown of the whole range of choices that make up an item configuration.

  • System - Used to transfer information, such as item number, configuration identification, and quantity from the original order line to the item that is currently being configured.

  • Simple - Used in product model simple calculations.

  • Data type - Used to gain access to all Microsoft Dynamics AX extended data types.

  • Table - Used to fetch information from any table defined in Microsoft Dynamics AX.

  • Class - Used to access all the classes defined in Microsoft Dynamics AX.

Variable

Type designation for the variable.

For modeling variables, the type name is the name of one of the global modeling variables that is defined in the Modeling variables form.

  • For Data type variables, the name refers to the list of Microsoft Dynamics AX data types.

  • For Table variables, the name refers to the list of Microsoft Dynamics AX tables.

  • For Class variables, the name refers to the list of Microsoft Dynamics AX classes.

Variable

Variable name in the modeling tree.

Array

Select to set the variable as an array, that is, in such a way that it is in an indexed table that contains several rows.

For array variables, the Max. field contains the number of array elements - rows.

Array properties for modeling variables can only be set in the form that opens after clicking Grouping in the Product model form, and only for whole variable groups.

If the current variable is an array, this field contains the number of array elements.

Default

A default value of the variable.

Inherit

Select to have the variable's value be inherited from a parent product model. The variable from which the value is inherited in the parent product model must have the same variable name as the variable that inherits the value.

Return value

Select to have the variable's value be returned to an earlier product model.

The variable to which the value is returned in the parent product model must have the same variable name as the variable that returns the value.

Field properties

Display properties of the field by selecting from the following options:

  • Hide - Field that contains the modeling variable is not displayed in the user dialog box.

  • Show only - Field that contains the modeling variable is visible in the user dialog box, but cannot be edited.

  • Allow edit - User can select a value for the field that contains the modeling variable in the user dialog box.

  • Mandatory - User is required to enter the value for the field that contains the modeling variable in the user dialog box.
