Generate items and dimensions (form)

Click Product information management > Common > Product builder > Product models. Select a product model. On the Action pane, click Generate items and dimensions
Use this form to set up the parameters if a new item number must be generated for the configured item. You can also set up the product model so that it generates:
New configuration numbers
Size identification numbers
Color identification numbers
Note
We recommend that you do not use this form, because it is being officially deprecated and may be removed, and may not be available in future versions of Microsoft Dynamics AX.
Task that uses this form
Note
When an item number is formatted, it is extended by a number from the number sequence that is set up in the Item number field on the Number sequences tab of the Product builder parameters form. Otherwise, the same item number can be generated for two different item configurations.
Example
The variable that you want to refer to is second in the relevant list of variables. You want the identifier to consist of the letters ABC followed by the content of the variable. Therefore, you specify ABC%2 as the format of the identifier.

Format size |
Specify the format that is used when size identification numbers are generated. A format specification can consist of pieces of regular text and references to the product model's modeling variables. To reference a variable, select it in the list of variables on the Size variables tab. This tab appears when you select the Generate size check box. After you select a variable, you can refer to it by using a percentage sign (%) followed by the number of the variable's entry in the list. |

Specify the format that is used when color identification numbers are generated. A format specification can consist of pieces of regular text and references to the product model's modeling variables. To reference a variable, select it in the list of variables on the Color variables tab. This tab appears when you select the Generate color check box.
