Click Master planning > Journals > Safety stock.

Use this form to calculate safety stock levels for items according to their item dimensions.

You can select a journal, create journal lines for the items that you want to check, and then calculate proposals for minimum inventory levels. The application creates a proposal after it performs a historical analysis of item issue transactions. Historical analysis is for over a minimum of three months. As soon as you approve a proposal, post it so that it becomes valid as the new minimum inventory level.

The journal can help you maintain the current minimum inventory level—existing item coverage settings—and can help you identify items that have less than the minimum inventory level and could risk being subject to a stock out.

Navigating the form

The following tables provide descriptions for the controls in this form.

Tabs

Tab	Description
Overview tab	View the journals that have been set up in the Item coverage journal names form.
General tab	View or enter additional information for the selected journal.
Setup tab	For the selected journal, set up the time frame and other requirements for checking past item issue transactions.
Blocking	View or enter information about user access for the selected journal.
History	View basic information about lines that have been posted for the selected journal.

Buttons

Button	Description
Lines	Open the Item coverage journal lines form where you can create or update minimum inventory lines.
Validate	Open a batch job that can inspect the journal before you post it.
Post	Open a batch job to post the journal.
Create new	Create an item coverage journal and open the Item coverage journal lines form at the same time.
Log	Open a log that contains records of minimum inventory levels that have been posted in the past.
Print	Open a print dialog where you can set up options for printing the report.

Fields

Field	Description
Name	Identification of the journal name.
Journal	Identification of the journal.
Description	The description of the journal.
Journal type	The item coverage journal types.
Lines	The number of journal lines.
Posted	If this check box is selected, the journal has been posted.
Delete lines after posting	Select this check box to have journal lines deleted when the posting of the journal has been completed.
From date	Shows the date from which you want to start the investigation of issue transactions. Enter the from date in the Create journal lines for proposed minimum inventory levels dialog box.
To date	This field shows the date to which you want the investigation of issue transactions to last. Enter the to date in the Create journal lines for proposed minimum inventory levels dialog box.
Calculate std. deviation	If this check box is selected, the system calculates the standard deviation in issue transactions over time.
Used by user	When the In use check box is selected, this field contains the identification of the user who is currently using the journal.
Private for user	When Private check box is selected, this field contains the identification of the user who has exclusive use of the journal.
Locked by system	When this check box is selected, the journal is closed to other users.
Private for user group	The user group that has exclusive use of the journal.
Posted on	The date when the journal was posted.
Posted by	The user who posted the journal.
Original journal No.	The journal number that the lines are transferred from.
