How to Prepare for Disk Management Activities for an LCR Copy

Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 will reach end of support on April 11, 2017. To stay supported, you will need to upgrade. For more information, see Resources to help you upgrade your Office 2007 servers and clients.

Applies to: Exchange Server 2007, Exchange Server 2007 SP1, Exchange Server 2007 SP2, Exchange Server 2007 SP3

This topic describes how to prepare to manage disk volumes for a local continuous replication (LCR) copy and control when a volume is accessible to the LCR solution.

LCR continuously checks and accesses the copy unless replication and replay are halted for the copy. If you need to manipulate the disk volumes, you must first halt replication.

Before You Begin

You must perform the following procedure using an account that has Exchange Server Administrator permissions. Depending on the volume management task that you want to perform, local administrator permissions may be required. To determine the appropriate permissions for the desired storage management tasks, see your storage vendor's documentation.

Procedure

To prepare for managing disk volumes

  1. Halt replication and replay by following the procedures detailed in How to Halt Replication for a Storage Group Enabled for Local Continuous Replication.

  2. Refer to your storage vendor's documentation for the procedures for performing the desired volume management tasks.

  3. After the disk management activities are complete, resume replication and replay by following the procedures detailed in How to Restart Replication for a Storage Group That is Enabled for LCR.
