Deploy workflows

The process for deploying a workflow varies depending on whether you are using a predefined workflow, a SharePoint Designer workflow, or a Visual Studio custom workflow.

Task Requirements

The following are required to perform the procedures for this task:

Predefined workflows

Predefined workflows are automatically installed as features when you deploy Office SharePoint Server 2007 and are immediately available for use with lists and libraries. To deploy a predefined workflow, perform the following procedures:

  1. Activate workflows

  2. Add a workflow to a list or document library

    -or-

    Add a workflow to a content type

  3. Start a workflow

SharePoint Designer workflows

SharePoint Designer workflows are automatically activated and associated with a list or document library when you create the workflow. To deploy SharePoint Designer workflows, perform the following procedures:

  1. Enable SharePoint Designer workflows

  2. Create SharePoint Designer workflows

  3. Start a workflow

Visual Studio workflows

The first step in deploying a Visual Studio custom workflow is to install the workflow as a Feature. After a workflow is installed, you must activate it for your site and add it to a list or document library before you can start it. To deploy a Visual Studio workflow, perform the following procedures:

  1. Install Visual Studio custom workflows

  2. Activate workflows

  3. Add a workflow to a list or document library

    -or-

    Add a workflow to a content type

  4. Start a workflow
