Configure a SharePoint Products and Technologies server

Use this procedure to configure a SharePoint Products and Technologies server in your farm.

Configure a SharePoint Products and Technologies server

  1. On the SharePoint Central Administration Web site, on the Operations page, in the Topology and Services section, click Servers in farm.

  2. On the Servers in Farm page, in the Server column, click the name of the server you want to configure.

The Services on Server page opens.

  3. On the Services on Server page, select the role that you want to assign to this server. The roles available for this server may be restricted to some extent by the size of your server farm. Small or medium-sized server farms often do not have enough capacity for specialized, single-role servers.

  4. In the services table, stop or start the SharePoint Products and Technologies services you want to run on this server.

  5. To configure a particular service, you may be able to click the service name to open a service settings page. Configurable service settings are not available for all services.
