Telephony users in your organization need a phone that can effectively integrate with the telephony solution you deploy. Microsoft Office Communicator 2007 R2 Phone Edition is available for use with Enterprise Voice in Office Communications Server 2007 R2.

Office Communicator 2007 R2 Phone Edition is an intelligent Internet Protocol (IP) phone, such as a USB-attached phone, that supports placing and receiving calls, enhanced presence, and SIP signaling. It can also provide the client audio capabilities for Web conferences.

With click-to-call integration, users can click a contact in Office Communicator 2007 R2 and make the call using their Office Communicator 2007 R2 Phone Edition device (or click an incoming call in Office Communicator 2007 R2 and answer the call using their Office Communicator 2007 R2 Phone Edition device).

To perform authentication, Communicator Phone Edition requires certificates. If your organization uses a public certification authority (CA), the certificate will probably be trusted by the device automatically, because Windows CE includes the same list of trusted CAs. However, if your organization uses internal certificates for the internal Office Communications Server 2007 R2 servers, the root CA certificate from the internal CA must be installed on the device.
