Use media plans to define the elements of a marketing effort like creative, media, or cost. Microsoft Dynamics Marketing has powerful media planning functions.

Users must be Media Buyers and have the Media Planning privilege.

Media professionals often use the same terminology in different ways. In Microsoft Dynamics Marketing:

  • Media orders are purchase orders for media. For print media, orders are often called insertion orders. Media orders are sent to media outlets and can only be for single media outlets.

  • When vendor invoices are received, users create media expenses. Media expenses include any adjustments to the original media orders due to changes, discounts, surcharges, preemptions and bonuses (free advertising). Media expenses are posted to the general ledger automatically, but media orders are not automatically posted to the general ledger.

  • Just like media orders, media invoices can only be for single media outlets. Media invoices are sent to clients and are automatically posted to the general ledger. (Create media sales orders for invoices that don't post automatically.) Media invoices can be for multiple media outlets.

  • Media plans and media buys refer to the same thing. A media plan can contain advertisements for multiple media outlets.
