Use channels in Microsoft Dynamics Marketing to get a consolidated or roll-up view of all marketing activities that are related to a specific marketing channel.


  • An unlimited number of channels can belong to each company that is created in Microsoft Dynamics Marketing. Channels can only belong to a single company.

  • An unlimited number of channels can belong to each division that is created in Microsoft Dynamics Marketing. Channels can only belong to a single division.

Channels in this context refer to the distribution channels used to market and sell products. Examples of channels include:

  • A computer company sells its hardware direct to consumers, through retailers and distributors. Channels could be defined as direct-to-consumer, retail, distribution.

  • A consumer products company sells its products through national chain stores and independent outlets. Each national chain and independent outlet could be defined as a channel.

Channels can be associated with the site company or with a client or vendor company. To work with them, do one of the following:

  • For site company channels: go to Settings > My Company > Channels

  • For client company channels: go to Marketing Execution > Clients > Client Companies to see the Client Companies list page. Locate and open the company you wish to work with, then choose the Channels related-information tab at the bottom of the Client Company maintenance page.

  • For vendor company channels: go to Marketing Execution > Vendors > Vendor Companies to see the Vendor Companies list page. Locate and open the company you wish to work with, then choose the Channels related-information tab at the bottom of the Vendor Company maintenance page.

  1. Go to the Channels settings for your site, client or vendor company as descried in the previous section.

  2. Click the New button New button. Dynamics Marketing opens a blank channel page.

  3. Enter the following information:

    Status

    Select a status.

    Name

    Enter the name of the channel. If you enter the same name twice, Microsoft Dynamics Marketing will display a warning.

    Description

    Enter a description of the channel. (Optional.)

    Company

    This setting is read-only; it shows the name of the company that you chose to work with at the start of this procedure.

    Division

    Select the division that this channel is for from the pull-down menu. (Optional.) More information: Set up divisions and departments to reflect your organization

    Category

    Select the category this channel belongs to.

    Type

    Select the type this channel belongs to.

  4. Click Submit.
