View and set up plug-ins

Updated: November 1, 2016

Applies To: Dynamics Marketing

Microsoft Dynamics Marketing is scheduled to be retired on May 15, 2018. After that date the service will no longer be available. Please plan accordingly. For details, see the blog post Microsoft Dynamics Marketing service will be discontinued, and learn what’s coming next.

A plug-in is a markup tag that a user can embed in the body of an email marketing message. Plug-ins make it easy for users to embed tags that provide access to advanced functions.

The following plugins must be included in all marketing email messages. Mails that don’t include these plugins will fail the validation test and therefore cannot be activated or sent until all required plug-ins are added. These requirements help make your marketing mails CAN-SPAM compliant, thus ensuring that your messages comply with all regulations in most countries/regions while also helping to make sure they land in recipients’ inboxes. More information: CAN SPAM compliance guidelines, Validate, test and send messages

  • Subscription Center: lets message recipients manage their subscription list participation and opt-in or out of mailing lists. More information: Create a subscription center

  • Sender Address: enables users to quickly insert an HTML tag into the body of an email message that displays the mailing address of the sender. More information: Sender Address plug-ins

The remaining plug-ins make it convenient to include other types of dynamic functionality and/or commonly used elements to your marketing emails. Optional plugins include:

  • Forward to a Friend: enables message recipients to forward messages to other recipients and allows Microsoft Dynamics Marketing to track the activity. More information: Create a Forward-to-a-Friend plug-in

  • View as Web Page: enables email recipients to view messages in a browser instead of in their email client. This function is very useful to recipients who may be viewing their messages in an email client that doesn't support HTML formatting, such as on mobile phones. More information: View as web page plug-ins

  • One-click Subscribe: lets users insert an HTML tag into the body of an email message that when clicked, adds the email address of the email recipient to the specified list. More information: One-click Subscribe plug-ins

  • Double opt-in link: enables users to insert a link that recipients must use to confirm their consent during the double opt-in procedure (when using double opt-in). More information: Create a double opt in link plug-in, Set up the double opt-in system

To work with plug-ins, go to Settings > Campaign Management > Email Marketing Plug-ins. This brings you to the Plug-Ins list page, which provides many of the standard controls for searching, sorting, filtering, adding, removing and viewing items in the list, plus other common features. See Learn how to work and get around in Microsoft Dynamics Marketing for details about how to use these common controls.

Customer shall not use email marketing features in violation of applicable laws.
