Create and view activities

Put important activities on the Microsoft Dynamics Marketing calendar so that everyone can be aware of them. Activities are simple events that are on calendars. Be sure not to confuse activities with events (trade show exhibits, meetings and conferences). Examples of activities include meetings, holidays, etc.

To work with activities, you must have Edit/View Activities privileges. More information: Work with user accounts and staff contacts.

To work with activities, go to Marketing Execution > Calendar > Activities. This brings you to the Activities list page, which provides many of the standard controls for searching, sorting, filtering, adding, removing and viewing items in the list, plus other common features. You can also create and view activities while working in many other areas of Dynamics Marketing, including jobs, campaigns, programs and calendars. However the activities you see when you are away from the Activities list page are usually filtered to show only those activities associated with a particular item (such as a given campaign). All activities, including those created elsewhere, are accessible via the Activities list page.

Regardless of which part of the site you are working in, the settings provided for each activity are the same, as listed in the following table.




Select a status from the pull-down menu. You can customize the set of entries available here if needed (see Create custom drop-down values and folders).


Enter a name for the activity.


Enter a description of the activity.


Select a contact.

Start Date

Enter a start date.

End Date

Enter an end date.

Reminder Date

Enter a reminder date.


Select a type from the pull-down menu.


Select a category from the pull-down menu. You can customize the set of entries available here if needed (see Create custom drop-down values and folders).


Select a company from the pull-down menu.


Select a division from the pull-down menu. More information: Set up divisions and departments to reflect your organization.


Select a program from the list. (Optional).


Select a campaign from the list. (Optional).


Select a job from the list. (Optional).


Select an event from the list. (Optional).


Select a session from the list. (Optional).


Specify which users can see the activity. By default, all users can see new activities. To specify which users can see an activity, click the Can Read or Can Update check boxes as needed.
