Configure the platform for Groove Server Relay

This article provides information and procedures for configuring the platform for Groove Server Relay.

Before you begin

Before you start this procedure, install the Windows Server operating system with the necessary components, as described in Install the operating system for Groove Server Relay.

Configure Windows Server 2008 for Groove Server Relay

The following procedure provides guidance for configuring Windows Server 2008 to support the Groove Server Relay installation.

To correctly configure Windows Server 2008 for Groove Server Relay

  1. Address the requirements in Before you begin.

  2. Configure startup and recovery settings, as follows:

    1. Open the System Control Panel item, select Advanced system settings, and then click the Advanced tab.

    2. Select Startup and Recovery Settings and set properties as described in the following table, and then click OK:

  3. Configure performance settings, as follows:

    1. From the System Control Panel item, select Advanced system settings, click the Advanced tab. Then they click Performance Settings and set the following options:

      • On the Visual Effects tab, select Adjust for Best Performance.

      • On the Advanced tab, under Processor scheduling, select Adjust for best performance of: Background services.

    2. On the same Advanced tab, under Virtual Memory, click Change and set the virtual memory to be at least the size of the real memory available on your server, but no more than half the available free space on the system partition.

    3. Click OK.

  4. Set properties for each Windows Event Log, as follows:

    1. Click Start --> Program Files --> Administrative Tools, and open the Event Viewer program.

    2. To avoid loss of important event data, open each log and set its properties as shown in the following table:

  5. Install the latest Windows service pack, obtainable from Microsoft Service Packs (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/p/?LinkId=93682&clcid=0x409).

  6. Install the latest Windows critical and security updates, obtainable from Microsoft Update (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/p/?LinkId=93684&clcid=0x409).

The server is now ready for the Groove Server Relay software installation.
