Step 10: Create WCF Broker Nodes Running HPC Pack

Before you create the WCF broker nodes that you will include in a failover cluster, review the following requirements.

Important

  • Any server that you plan to include in a failover cluster must meet the requirements that are listed in Requirements for HPC Pack in Failover Clusters.

  • WCF broker nodes must be connected to the enterprise network.

  • WCF broker nodes that you plan to include in a failover cluster must not run other HPC cluster node roles (head node or compute node).

Create WCF broker nodes

Use standard HPC Pack procedures to create preconfigured WCF broker nodes. When you install HPC Pack, you must choose the type of HPC cluster node that you want to install. One of the choices is a WCF broker node. For information about installing HPC Pack on a domain-joined computer to preconfigure a WCF broker node, see Step 5: Add Nodes to the Cluster in the HPC Pack Getting Started Guide.

Important considerations for creating WCF broker nodes to include in a failover cluster

  • When running the HPC Pack Installation Wizard, on the Join Cluster page, type the name of the clustered head node as it is displayed in Failover Cluster Manager. Do not type the name of a physical server.

  • Run the Installation Wizard on each server that will be in the failover cluster for the WCF broker nodes. After you create the WCF broker nodes, you must add them to the HPC cluster. You will configure them in a failover cluster later.

  • To add the WCF broker nodes to the HPC cluster, use standard procedures to create a broker node template without an operating system and to add the nodes to the HPC cluster (for example, by using the Add Node Wizard in HPC Cluster Manager). For more information, see Add Preconfigured Nodes
