Manufacturing execution production parameters (form)

Click Production control > Setup > Manufacturing execution > Production parameters.

Click Production control > Setup > Manufacturing execution > Production parameters by site.

Use this form to define parameters that integrate the manufacturing execution features with the Production control module. These parameters define how and when feedback is registered in the production process. The parameter settings affect inventory management, production management, and cost calculation.

Depending on which form you open, not all tabs or fields that are documented here are displayed in the form.

The following tables provide descriptions for the controls in this form.

View or create parameter settings for a specific site. This tab is only available on the Production parameters by site form.

General

View or edit general parameters.

Start

View or edit parameters for starting production jobs.

Operations

View or edit parameters for operations and feedback on operations.

Report as finished

View or edit parameters for reporting finished items on a production order.

Quantity validation

View or edit parameters for quantity validation on production jobs.

Fields

Field

Description

Site

Select a site. This field is only available on the Production parameters by site form.

Name

The name of the site. This field is only available on the Production parameters by site form.

Parameter usage

Controls which parameter settings are used for multiple sites. The options are as follows:

By company - The company-wide parameters are always used.

By site - The parameters for the selected site are used.

Bundle type

Select the default time allocation type for bundled jobs.

Tip

Refer to About allocation keys to learn more about job bundling and the allocation keys that can be used if a worker makes registrations on more than one job at a time in the Job registration form.

Post time automatically

Select to post time journals immediately when registrations are transferred to the Production module.

Time journal

Select the journal that must be used for posting time when registrations are transferred to the Production module.

Note

The selection in this field will be either Job or Route. If your company uses operations scheduling as the production scheduling method, select Route. If your company uses job scheduling, select Job. If your company changes the scheduling method after this parameter has been set, you may want to manually update this field in addition to the Route consumption journal field on the Operations tab, to reflect the change in production scheduling method.

Piecework rate formula

Select which formula should be used for calculating the piecework rate.

Note

The standard version of Microsoft Dynamics AX contains only one formula.

Specify production order

Select the check box if piecework orders must be specified separately. If you clear this check box, the piecework setup includes all production orders processed in Manufacturing execution.

Cost category

Select the check box to calculate cost based on the cost categories that are applied on the route, instead of calculating real cost, that is, the registrations and payroll transactions generated for each worker.

Note

If you clear the check box to apply real cost, you must use the payroll functionality in Time and attendance.

Dimension

Select the basis for applying dimensions to production registrations. For more information, see Set up dimension control for time and attendance.

Update start on-line

Specify how production orders are updated when a worker starts a production job in the Job registration form.

Edit options before posting

Select the check box to open the Start form when a production order is started in the Job registration form.

Use Manufacturing Execution parameters

Select the check box to apply production order start parameters that are set up in Manufacturing execution.

Note

If you clear this check box, the parameters defined for the start process are used. Click Production control > Periodic > Production orders > Start.

Open picking list journals

Select the check box to open picking list journals that are automatically generated during the start process. This may be required if, for example, inventory dimensions have to be applied or edited.

Start production

Select the check box to update the started quantity of the production.

References

Select the check box to start any lower-level or upper-level productions that are attached to the current production.

Route card

Select the route card journal that is used for posting time used and quantity produced on production orders.

Automatic route consumption

Specify how automatic route consumption should be handled. You have the following options.

Post route card now

Select the check box to post the automatically generated route card immediately.

End-mark route

Select the check box to create a route card journal with the operations that are marked as completed.

Note

The route card journal is created regardless of the setting in the Automatic route consumption field.

Picking list

Select the picking list journal to use for automatic posting on startup.

Automatic BOM consumption

Select how to apply automatic BOM consumption during startup of a production order:

  • Flushing principle - Automatically register consumption on BOM items that have the value Start selected in the Flushing principle field.

  • Always - Always register BOM consumption during startup of a production order.

  • Never - Never register BOM consumption during startup of a production order.

Post picking list now

Select the check box to post automatically generated picking list journals immediately.

End-mark picking list

Select the check box to create the picking list journal with end-marked lines. This means that no additional material consumption is expected to be posted for the production order.

Physical reduction

Select the check box to reduce the calculated consumption to what is physically in stock.

Pick negative

Select the check box to pick BOM item consumption automatically, regardless of whether the quantity or amount is in stock.

Complete picking list journal

Select the check box to update the Finished picking status for all BOM items. This includes items that have no calculated consumption.

Create journal per

Specify how to create the picking list journal.

Job level

Select one of the following options:

  • Job – Production orders are job scheduled.

  • Route – Production orders are operations scheduled.

Route consumption journal

Select the journal that is used for posting time when registrations are transferred to the Production module. The selected journal is used to post finished items on operations and update statuses on jobs.

Post automatically

Select the check box to post the automatically generated route or job cards immediately when production feedback is reported in the Job registration form.

Queue before

Select to allow for workers to register on this job type that is found in the Job registration form. This job type can only be used if job scheduling is selected as the production scheduling method.

Setup

Select to allow for workers to register on this job type that is found in the Job registration form. This job type can be used for both operations scheduling and job scheduling.

Process

Select to allow for workers to register on this job type that is found in the Job registration form. This job type can be used for both operations scheduling and job scheduling.

Overlap

Select to allow for workers to register on this job type that is found in the Job registration form. This job type can only be used if job scheduling is selected as the production scheduling method.

Transport

Select to allow for workers to register on this job type that is found in the Job registration form. This job type can only be used if job scheduling is selected as the production scheduling method.

Queue after

Select to allow for workers to register on this job type that is found in the Job registration form. This job type can only be used if job scheduling is selected as the production scheduling method.

Automatic BOM consumption

Select how to apply automatic BOM consumption when reporting feedback on operations:

  • Flushing principle - Automatically register consumption on BOM items that have the value Start selected in the Flushing principle field. Click Production control > Common > Production orders > All production orders. On the Action Pane, on the Production order tab, in the Production details group, select BOM. The Flushing principle field is located on the Setup tab.

  • Always - Always register BOM consumption when reporting feedback on operations.

  • Never – Never register BOM consumption when reporting feedback on operations.

Picking list

Select the picking list journal to use for automatic posting on operations.

Post automatically

Select the check box to post the automatically generated picking list journals immediately.

Edit journal

Select the check box to open the picking list journal when a worker reports feedback on an operation or a job.

Assistants use secondary operations

Select the check box if you use the pilot/assistant functionality in Manufacturing execution, and you want the module to automatically search for worker ID among secondary operations when a worker is registered as assistant to a another resource, worker or machine.

Update finished report on-line

Specify how production orders are updated when items are reported as finished on the last operation in the Job registration form.

Edit options before posting

Select the check box to open the report as finish journal when reporting finished items on the last operation in the Job registration form.

Use Manufacturing Execution parameters

Select the check box to apply the parameters for completed operations that are set up in the Manufacturing execution module.

Note

If the check box is not selected, the parameters that are defined in the Report as finished form are used. Click Production control > Periodic > Production orders > Report as finished.

Route card

If route consumption is posted, select the route card journal.

Automatic route consumption

Specify how automatic route consumption should be handled.

End-mark route

Select the check box to create the route card journal with the operations that are marked as completed.

Note

The route card journal is created regardless of the Automatic route consumption setting.

Picking list

Select the picking list journal to use for posting material consumption.

Automatic BOM consumption

Select how to apply automatic BOM consumption when reporting finished items on a production order:

  • Flushing principle - Automatically register consumption on BOM items that have the value Start selected in the Flushing principle field. Click Production control > Common > Production orders > All production orders. On the Action Pane, click the Production order tab > Production details group > BOM > Setup tab.

  • Always: Always register BOM consumption when a production order is reported as finished.

  • Never: Never register BOM consumption when a production order is reported as finished.

End-mark picking list

Select the check box to create the picking list journal with end-marked lines. This means that no additional material consumption is expected to be posted on the production order.

Report as finished

Select the journal for reporting finished items on the production order.

End job

Select the check box to indicate that this is an end job, and that no additional reporting as finished is expected on the production order.

Accept error

Select the check box if you do not want to view an error log if any inconsistencies occur during the production process.

If you clear the check box, an error log is displayed for inconsistencies, and the report as finished update is canceled.

Maximum report quantity

Enter a limit for the maximum quantity of items that can be reported as finished on a job.

If a larger quantity is entered on a process job feedback, the user receives an Info log message. This value makes sure that only valid quantities are entered when workers provide feedback on production jobs and operations.

Validate startup quantities

Select the check box to validate the started quantity of a production process job.

Startup validation method

If you select the Validate startup quantities check box earlier in this section, select the method to apply when validating the started quantity in this field.

Accept startup deviation

Select the check box to accept that the started quantity exceeds the validation quantity up to a specific percentage.

Accepted deviation in percentage

If you select the Accept startup deviation check box, insert the acceptable percentage for an excess started quantity in this field.

Validate feedback quantity

Select the check box to validate the feedback quantity of a production process job.

Feedback validation method

If you select the Validate feedback quantity check box, select the method to apply when validating the feedback quantity for production process jobs.

Accept surplus production

Select the check box to accept that the feedback quantity exceeds the validation quantity up to a specific percentage.

Accepted surplus in percentage

If you select the Accept surplus production check box, insert the acceptable percentage for an excess feedback quantity in this field.

Accept production shortage

Select the check box to accept that the feedback quantity is less than the validation quantity throughout a specific percentage.

Accepted shortage in percentage

If you select the Accept production shortage check box, insert the acceptable percentage for a production shortage.
