Create table definition group (form)

Click System administration > Common > Data export/import > Definition groups. Click New.

Use this form to create definition groups. Definition groups identify groups of tables that can be imported or exported when you are using Microsoft Dynamics AX data import/export. Definition groups are required to export data, but not to import data.

Include table groups

Select which table groups to include in a definition. Descriptions of each table group are provided below, but for a detailed list of all tables in a table group, see Table and table group reference.

Definition group

Identify the definition group using letters or numbers up to 10 characters.

Description

Enter a description for the definition group.

Note

Select this check box to include document management notes that were added in the Application Object Tree (AOT) using the Add notes command and stored in the DocuRef table.

Include system tables

Select this check box to include system tables, such as users, user groups, and document parameters. If you include system tables, after you have created the definition group, carefully review the list of tables to be exported and clear tables with the Util prefix.

Include cross-reference tables

Select this check box to include tables with a prefix of XRef. Cross reference tables are generated by the system and can be regenerated at any time.

Include shared tables

Select this check box to include tables that are shared by all companies.

Include database log tables

Select this check box to include tables that track updates, insertions, and deletions made by users.

Framework

Select this check box to include the tables that are used by the underlying Microsoft Dynamics AX framework. These tables are created during installation and are not associated with configuration keys.

An example is the ReleaseUpdateBulkCopy table.

Group

Select this check box to include the tables that are used to categorize the tables in the Main table group.

Examples include bank groups, pricing groups, commission groups, item groups, and address tables.

Main

Select this check box to include the principal or master tables that contain data for central business objects. These tables typically hold static, base information.

Examples include CustTable and VendTable.

Miscellaneous

Select this check box to include tables that have not been otherwise categorized.

This is the default value for a new table.

Examples include methods of payment, web portal tables, asset setup, states, and transactions.

Parameter

Select this check box to include the tables that contain parameters or setup information for tables in the Main table group.

Examples include CustParameters and VendParameters.

Reference

Select this check box to include tables that contain reference data.

An example is Currency.

Transaction

Select this check box to include tables that contain transaction data.

Examples include CustTrans and VendTrans.

Transaction header

Select this check box to include tables that contain transaction data.

There is a one-to-many relationship between a TransactionHeader table and a TransactionLine table.

An example is SourceDocumentHeader.

Transaction line

Select this check box to include tables that contain transaction data.

An example is SourceDocumentLine.

Worksheet

Select this check box to include tables that contain information to be validated and made into transactions.

An example is DocuRef.

Worksheet header

Select this check box to include tables that categorize Worksheet line tables. .

There is a one-to-many relationship between a Worksheet header table and Worksheet line tables.

An example is SalesTable.

Worksheet line

Select this check box to include tables that contain information to be validated and made into transactions.

Unlike the data that is contained in tables in the Transaction table group, the data in Worksheet line tables is temporary and may be deleted without affecting system stability.

An example is SalesLine.
