Assign users to or exclude users from role (form)

Click System administration > Setup > Security > Assign users to roles. Select a role and click the Manually assign / exclude users button.
Use this form to manually assign users to a role, to manually exclude users from a role, or to remove manual assignments and exclusions. We recommend assigning roles automatically most of the time.

Assign to role |
Assign the selected users to the role. Users who are manually assigned to security roles must also be manually removed by the administrator. They will not be removed from roles through automatic role assignment rules. |
Exclude from role |
Exclude the selected users from the role. When you manually exclude a user from a role, the excluded user is not listed in the role membership. When automatic role assignment rules run or an Active Directory group is assigned to a role, the excluded user is not granted the access associated with the role. The user cannot be assigned to the role until the administrator removes the exclusion. |
Reset status |
Clear the status of the selected user. The user will be neither assigned to nor excluded from the role. The next time that automatic role assignment rules run, the reset users will be added to or removed from the role accordingly. |

Assignment mode |
Indicates whether the user was assigned to the role manually or automatically. If the user was excluded from the role, this field displays Manual. If this field displays None, the user is not currently assigned to the role. |
User type |
Indicates whether the user is authenticated by Active Directory or by a claims-based authentication provider. For more information about claims-based authentication, see the Enterprise Portal documentation. |
