The following sections describe the pages in the wizard.

Welcome to Active Directory Import Wizard

This page introduces you to the wizard. Click Next to move to the next page.

Select users to import from Active Directory

Select the Active Directory domain to import users from, and then enter search criteria for the Active Directory users or groups that you want to import.

Note

You cannot search for users by using only the Title field. To search on the Title field, you must also include at least one other field in the search criteria.

Select users

This page shows the results of the Active Directory search performed in the previous step. Use this page to select the users that you want to import.

Field

Description

Import

Select this check box to add the Active Directory user to Microsoft Dynamics AX. To select all users, click the Select all button. To select no users, click None.

AD Alias

The Active Directory alias. The list can be sorted alphabetically.

Display name

The display name of the Active Directory user. This list can be sorted alphabetically.

Title

The title of the Active Directory user. This list can be sorted alphabetically.

Department

The department of the Active Directory user. This list can be sorted alphabetically.

Company

The company associated with the Active Directory user. This list can be sorted alphabetically.

Important

The company specified in Active Directory does not affect companies in Microsoft Dynamics AX.

After you click Next, the next page allows you to verify the selected users to be imported into Microsoft Dynamics AX.

The wizard creates user IDs of up to five characters for the new Microsoft Dynamics AX users. The user ID is the first five characters of the Active Directory alias.

When multiple users within the group have the same first five characters in their Active Directory aliases, the wizard automatically generates Microsoft Dynamics AX user IDs for the users, which consist of the first four characters of the Active Directory alias, followed by a digit.

You can’t change user IDs while running the wizard. However, you can change user IDs later to make them more meaningful. For more information, see Create new users in Microsoft Dynamics AX.

Select roles

Use this page to assign security roles to the list of users. The roles that you select on this page will be assigned to all the users that you are importing.

All users must be assigned to at least one security role to have access to Microsoft Dynamics AX. The security roles assigned to a user determine which duties the user can perform and which parts of the user interface the user can view.

When you assign a user to a role by using this wizard, you cannot assign the user to a role in a specific organization. The user is assigned to the role in all organizations. To modify an individual user’s settings after you import users, use the User form.

Select profile

Use this page to assign profiles to the list of users. A user profile determines the content that is displayed on the Role Center page for the users who are assigned to that profile.

Note

In this release, Role Center profiles are not related to security roles.

You can select from the following categories.

Field

Description

No profile in all companies

Select this option if a profile should not be assigned to the list of users.

Same profile in all companies:

Select this option if the same profile should be assigned to the list of users for all companies, and then select the profile from the list.

Company specific profile:

Select this option if you want users to view a different profile in each Microsoft Dynamics AX company. Select a profile for each company in the list.

A user can view the Role Center that corresponds to the profile in the selected company only.

Complete the Active Directory Import Wizard

This is the final page of the wizard. Click Finish to close the wizard.
